May 23, 2015 - Cambridge Airport Wings & Wheels

My parents were visiting for the week.  We were looking for something fun to do Saturday and decided to drive over and check out the Cambridge Airport Wings & Wheels fly-in.   Fun for the whole family!

There were a number of interesting planes to look at.

This L-39 jet came in for a landing.

Mark M. was on hand with his Super Chipmunk.  Here Lynnette and my Mom are talking with him.

My Dad is checking out Bill Finigan's Pitts.

Rides were available in this Stearman.  My Dad has flown a lot of planes but never a Stearman.  He did fly in Jan Scott's Gypsy Moth once though.

The L-39 parked on the ramp.

A good old Navy paint scheme.

Planes that flew-in were parked across the taxi way.

The "Wheels" part of the show.

I wish I had my old Miata.  I'd paint it like this!

The family checks out the classic Corvette.

Flame on!

Shelby Cobra.

Check out the drive-in food tray and dog by the tire.

The firewall on this coupe was so brightly polished it looked like the car had two engines.   Incredible attention to detail on this car.  Immaculate.

There was live entertainment under the American flag.

The family waits for the mini-airshow to begin.

Local aerobatic pilot Bill Finegin taxiis by in his Pitts.

He's going vertical!

Now he's going low.

The two L-39s taxi out.

And did a bunch of fly-bys in close formation.

The crowd goes wild.

We left following the mini-airshow.  It was a fun event.  Lots to see and people to talk to.  But not too much as we couldn't have walked too much in the hot sun.

Then we headed south to the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge which I have seen many times from the air.  But I wanted to see it from the ground.  They have a nice visitor's center pictures here.

Bald Eagle nest display including fake Bald Eagle.

We took the short driving tour.

Very scenic.

From there north back to Cambridge and then further north along the east side of the Choptank River to the Suicide Bridge Restaurant.    About three years ago, I flew into a private airstrip belonging to the owner of this restaurant.  It was the annual party for all his restaurant employees.   Going to the Suicide Bridge restaurant had been on my list of things to do since.

We had a nice dinner.  There was much discussion on how exactly you would commit suicide from his little bridge.
